SCA Youth Programs


Young Trades Person Program
The SCA office coordinates a two day work experience program for youth seeking to learn more about the construction trades.
 
Careers Spotlights
The SCA Office delivers a tour of a commercial consruction job site with high school students. Job site superintendents and journey people provide information to students about construction related careers. SCA coordinates the program in Regina, Moose Jaw and Prince Albert. Saskatoon District Education Council/Saskatoon Construction Association administrates the program in Saskatoon.
 
Career Fairs
Every school year the SCA Human Resource staff attend high school and post-secondary career fairs. Contact Doug or Erwin (525-0171) at the SCA office if you are hosting a career fair and would like information on the construction sector. Information materials distributed are: SCA brochure, SCA Construction Career CD, SCA-SATCC "Construction Career" pamphlet, CSC "Careers in Construction" brochure, SATCC - "SYA Program" & "SYA Scholarship" brochures, SATCC - "What is Apprenticeship" brochure.
 
Summer Internships
The SCA Human Resources Coordinator and Job Coach, recruit graduating high school students from high schools in Regina and surrounding area for six week summer internship. Students are chosen for the program in a variety of career trades in the construction industry. The purpose of the program is to integrate graduating high school students directly into the construction trade industry. Saskatoon District Education Council/Saskatoon Construction Association administrates the program in Saskatoon and the Prince Albert Construction Association and the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division administrates their program.
 
Skills Link Program
The SCA Human Resources Coordinator and Job Coach, recruit young adults from Regina and Estevan area an eight week work experience program. Students are chosen for the program in a variety of career trades in the construction industry. The purpose of the program is to integrate young adults into the construction trade industry
 
Saskjobs
Saskjobs is a provincially funded free web site designed to link companies with potential employees. SCA endorses and promotes this web site to the membership.
 
Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship (SYA)
Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship raises awareness of of apprenticeship in Saskatchewan schools by helping young people discover what rewards come with working in the skilled trades. SYA enhances student career developement by exploring the world of opportunities skill trades offer Saskatchewan youth.

Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship Scholarship Program
Forty scholarships worth $1,000 each will be awarded every June to selected, eligible high school graduates who have completed the Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship (SYA) program. In order to receive the scholarship students must within two years of graduation be entered into a contract of apprenticeship or complete one year of post-secondary training in a designated skilled trade.
